Urban Mountains is an initiative aimed at creating natural islands in the squares of our cities, with the goal of renaturalizing urban spaces. This project does not have a fixed location but is adaptable to any situation and constraints. By combining identical units or modules, various types of hills can be generated and adapted to different scenarios, depending on the city and the space to be revitalized. The construction system is reversible and circular, making it easy and simple to transport from one place to another. With this design, we participated in Tac! for the city of Cádiz and a private competition for the execution of the nativity scene in Sant Jaume Square in Barcelona.
The system consists of independent modular units made of structural wood, which can be customized in various ways. These units offer great programmatic flexibility, allowing the function, geometry, or size of the system to change over time.
The containment elements of the Urban Mountains promote the revitalization of squares and other public spaces by providing them with dual functionality. They act as active meeting points that blend nature with urban life, creating areas for recreation and social interaction where the community can connect with their environment and enjoy time together.
