The Wooden House

First Award [Europan 16. Living Cities]

The Wooden House is conceived as a new cultural and activity hub in Levanger, a small Viking-origin town in northern Norway.

It is a circular, sustainable, and inclusive building that respects the past and history of the ‘Wooden City’. Its geometry, scale, and materiality respond to the morphological and climatic conditions of the location while adapting to the heritage-protected environment that shapes the urban fabric where it is inserted.

Through a 24-hour, diverse, and cross-cutting program, The Wooden House becomes the second home for the citizens of Levanger; an open and accessible place to have a coffee, catch the bus, learn to play the piano, or start your own business…

Its bioclimatic envelope, prefabricated and demountable construction with local and recyclable materials, and sources of renewable energy capture make the building a positive element not only for the social activity of the Norwegian town but also for the surrounding natural environment.
